![]() The biggest problem with the free trial's significant restrictions on multiplayer is simply that it keeps the trial from being a genuine representation of the game. At the same time, free trial players can expect to struggle with making new friends in-game, since private messaging and guilds are both locked behind the paid membership. Players who start the game alongside their friends won't be able to party up until one of them decides to spend money on the game. For most, though, the experience will be largely solitary. Often, when recommending the trial to friends, veteran players with a paid membership will offer to accompany them through the early game, turning the game from a fairly boring trek through Eorzea to a quality experience with valued buddies. The FFXIV community is aware of the problem with A Realm Reborn. The narrative pacing is nonsensical, and since combat isn't especially fun until relatively far into the game, the gameplay isn't especially compelling either. While that may be true for recent expansions like Endwalker, A Realm Reborn, the campaign which makes up the first 50 levels of play and a little more than half of the free trial, is an absolute slog without friends. In short, playing FFXIV on a free trial can be a very lonely experience. On top of that, trial players can't use the /shout command to send a message that everyone can hear, nor can they use the /tell command to send a message to one player. They also can't join Free Companies, FFXIV's take on guilds. Free trial players can be invited to join parties, but they aren't allowed to form them for themselves. Final Fantasy XIV's free trial comes with some pretty harsh restrictions on multiplayer.
